The Jewish Experience

The annual tradition of the Jewish Experience starts with a breakfast of bagels & lox at 8:30am before the film screening starts at 10:00am This year the Jewish Experience will be screening a documentary about the legendary pantomime Marcel Marceau, entitled the Art of Silence. It tells the story of how Marceau witnessed the execution of his Jewish father by the Nazis and how that trauma motivated him to join the French resistance and spurred his deep conviction in the art of silence. This will be followed by a short documentary entitled Waves Apart, about the surprisingly anti-semitic history of surf culture. Afterwards there will be a Q&A with Jewish filmmaker and surfer Joshua Greene

The Art of Silence

The legendary pantomime Marcel Marceau inspires several generations of artists, among them his grandson and family, who cast a new light on his life’s work. As a child, Marceau experiences the execution of his Jewish father by the Nazis, a trauma that motivates him to join the French resistance and spurs his deep conviction in the art of silence.
